So, okay, as the title implies, I’m gonna be talking about my freshmen year in UP, in the School of Economics. So, why did I choose to talk about this? Well, this topic wasn’t really my first choice. I originally wanted to talk about the concept of penis envy (I still hope I can write about this in the future though), but certain happenings just made me reminisce about my freshmen year. I was actually writing this article as I sat in the Freshmen Batch Representative Election booth. I think this election is one of the main reasons why I decided to write this article. I just saw so much vibrancy, so much enthusiasm from this year’s batch of freshmen that it reminded me so much about my own freshmen year.
So, where will I start? It’s cliché to do this, but I’ll begin with my first day of class. We attended the Freshmen Welcome Assembly (FWA) by the USC. After the FWA, my block mates and I headed outside. We had a class to go to after. When we got out, it was raining really hard, but we went through the pouring rain, walking may I add, to get to our next class which was Math 17 lecture. The class ended up being free cut, but the experience of walking in the rain with your block mates is something that cannot be matched. After this, we decided to go to the Econ Lounge for lunch, but unfortunately it was closed. So, we took a jeep and ate lunch at Lutong Bahay. Then, we went to our Fil 40 class. It was the first day, and we ended it looking for a book in the library because our professor assigned a reading. We were all a bit pissed off at our professor, but it was all well and good. I would gladly go to the library again on my first day if it means I’ll be with my awesome block mates.
Can you believe that that was more than a year ago? Time just flew by extremely too fast. Freshie year went by just as fast as it came. So, I don’t really wanna go on about everything that happened last year. I’d just like to sum it all up in one single word: AWESOME. Freshmen year was just awesome. Sure, it may have been hard for us at first, but we all got through it as a batch. The best part about it was that along each and every single freshie’s journey, friendships were forged, bonds were formed, and memories that would last forever were made.
To Jus and Cara (our awesome freshie batch representatives): Thank you for having been really doing everything you can for the welfare of our batch. Thank you for having been continually striving to find ways on how we can be truly united as a batch.
To my awesome batch mates: I could never ask for better batch mates. You have truly become my family here in the School of Economics. Thank you for all the fun and crazy times (I think this is a lot). Thank you for the friendships. Thank you for the love.
To everyone who helped make this batch become what it is today: THANK YOU.
To freshmen batch 2013: I hope you all not only learn a lot from this crucial year in your college life, but also enjoy the experiences, the laughs, the craziness, the stress, and everything else in between.
I’ll stop here ‘cause I don’t want my article to be too dramatic (I might just reminisce a bit more:P), and I’ve already passed the limit as to the number of words I’m allowed to write. So, just to wrap things up, freshmen year will definitely be something I will look back on when I reach the end of this journey we call college and in this other bigger journey we call life.
I’m on this journey right now, looking at the end, but I will never ever forget the beginning. I won’t forget because knowing how awesome the beginning was will make me appreciate how awesome the end will be when I reach it <3.
